UCL Department of Earth Sciences
The appointment will be full time on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £33,353 - £40,313 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
We are looking to recruit an experienced electro-mechanical technician to work as part of a research team in the Rock and Ice Physics laboratory in the Department of Earth Sciences, University College London (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/earth-sciences/facilities/infrastructure/rock-physics ). The post will centre on the development and manufacture of a new and complex novel scientific apparatus as part of a recently acquired Natural Environmental Research Council grant. This cutting-edge apparatus will include a high pressure deformation triaxial cell with a fast moving high-speed hydraulic actuator to apply load, reproducing conditions surrounding faults during earthquakes.
The post will be funded for two years in the first instance.
Experience in electro-mechanical-hydraulic prototype engineering using a comprehensive range of workshop equipment, skilled in electronics, and the manufacture, repair and assembly of scientific equipment is essential, and be capable of independent working. Applicants will have a degree/HNC as well as a recognized apprenticeship or equivalent in electro/mechanical engineering design. The ability to design control systems and mechanical apparatus using CAD packages is also essential.
